Schoolpop

We would like to tell you about an online shopping site called Schoolpop, with hundreds of different merchants which will donate a percentage of your purchases to the school of your choice, if that school is registered. It is very easy to use and has some great websites to shop. An example of just a few are: American Eagle, Babies "R" Us, Cabela's, GAP, Gymboree, JCPenney, KBToys, Old Navy, Office Depot, Oriental Trader, Pottery Barn, Target, Toys "R" Us, and Wal-Mart. There are also many of the hotel chains participating, as well as a website just to purchase gift certificates (GiftCertificates.com). You have to first register at Schoolpop.com and then go to that website every time you want to shop. If you go directly to the merchants website without going through Schoolpop, your purchases will not count. Below is a list of local schools that are registered with Schoolpop and a list of easy steps to show you how to get started with Schoolpop and help the school of your choice. What an easy way to help earn extra money for your school by shopping and purchasing things we would already be doing anyway!
Happy Shopping!

List of Local Participating Schools:
  1. Central Elementary
  2. Chaimberlain Elementary
  3. Hook Elementary
  4. Rocky Point Baptist Church Wee School

4. Fill out your profile info
5. Choose your preferences (you can register your debit or credit cards here and even purchases from catalogs or in-store will benefit)
6. Opt in or out to receive email updates from SchoolPop
7. Download the Shopping Buddy (in case you forget to go through SchoolPop when making your purchases, the Shopping Buddy will do it for you)
8. Don't forget to register your debit and credit cards so your in-store purchases, as well as on-line purchases, will count toward your school!

Book Club

Several SMILE members met at Elizabeth's house to discuss our October book selection "Smart Couples Finish Rich". Everyone received a workbook to help get started on the path to financial success.

"White Oleander" was the book selection for the month of November. Our meeting was canceled due to the "Arctic Blast" that came through Stephenville! More information later as our hostess, Julie, makes a decision about rescheduling.

Kim has chosen the book "Baby Proof" for our December meeting. We will be discussing the book at 6:00 on Dec. 28th at Kim' house. (Despite the sound of the title, this book is not a self-help/non-fiction book!)

Just a Reminder

Don't forget that SMILE is collecting canned goods for Project HOPE and other local food banks. The month of August is "corn month" and in September we will be collecting cans of Chicken Noodle Soup. You still have time to get your donations to any SMILE officer. Any questions? Contact Cydni. Thanks for all you do to make our projects successful!

Served with a SMILE

The cookbooks are in and they look great! If you pre-ordered your cookbooks, you can pick them up from Frames Etc. during their regular business hours. Julie has a list of how many each person ordered. Otherwise... it's time to start selling! Please pick up books to sell at Frames Etc. You can return books you don't sell. The books are $15 each and would make great Christmas gifts. Each book comes with it's own stand, which can be stored by snapping it into the 3 ring binder. We ended up with 399 recipes and have a wide variety in all the different categories. If every SMILE member could sell 5-10 cookbooks, we would be well on our way to reaching our goal and raising a significant amount to donate to Wipe Out Kids Cancer! Send them to work with your husband to sell to co-workers, sell at your children's school, sell to friends, neighbors, family, etc. If you have more questions contact Elizabeth, Julie, Kim, or Traca.

Craft Day

The SMILE campers attended craft day at Andrea's house. The moms made picture puzzles while the kids played and ran around the yard. But the little ones did get in on the fun when it was time to make handprint/footprint placemats.

July Mom's Night Out

We met at The Lunch Box for a private dinner while the Dads stayed home with the kids. Deslys, Kim, Traca, Andrea, Rachelle, Elizabeth, Julie and Kristen enjoyed getting to know each other better when we played a personality guessing game. Who knew Desyls could shear sheep? Special thanks to De-Lynn, owner and chef of The Lunch Box for making the Greek salad, chicken vino, sauted squash, garlic herb bread, and strawberry tortes. Yum!

Wednesday's activity found a few SMILE campers picking blackberries and blackeyed peas at Worthington Orchard near Proctor. Elizabeth, Grant, Rachel, Luke, Traca, and Aubrey had lots of fun in the sun.

It's blackberry season!
